May Results

May I started off playing $100 Full ring then moved up to the $200 after I got a bit confidence back from my downswing. But ended the month moving form Stars and going to Ipoker for the rake back and will refocus on 6 max four tabling instead of trying 9+ full ring.

Will probably talk about my downswing in a later post as it has had a big impact on the mental part of my game.

Initial impressions of Ipoker does seem a bit less aggressive than Stars so hopefully will be reasonably soft.

Have played a few SNG's as well was going ok but didn't cash in the last set of five I did so that's knocked that into a loss for the month.

Results for the Month

Cash 17,000 hands $1,093 profit 1.97/ptbb

SNG 14 played $116 loss

MTT 6 played $ 92 loss 1 cash

Bonus and Rake back $ 16

Total $901 profit

All Systems Go

Well thats it my contract is over, Poker it is 100% for a minimum of 6 weeks and hopefully for the rest of the year if it all goes well.

Have now got everything sorted am going to have a few beers tonight then start playing tomorrow.

Had to mess on a nit to get everything working comfortably for me, changing sites as well as playing full time all adds to the stress.

But am all sorted now, my bet pot scripts are all working, datamining software bought and collecting hands as we speak. It also scans the tables so I can see the stats to help me table select well. As part of my agreement with the affiliate he has bumped me up to the top tier vip level so should be able to clear my bonus quick and get the points racked up for bonuses and rakeback. He reckons I should be getting 40-50% rakeback equivilent which will be around $4k based on how many hands I expect to play so should take some of pressure off knowing that will be in the bag as long as I get the hands in.

History of a Time to Come.............

Guess these first few posts will be background type to set the scene, hopefully things will ge more exciting once I start playing.

So what are my objectives and how am I going to achieve them.

Firstly on a monthly basis to make this worthwhile (against the opportunity costs of contracting) as well as paying the bills I need to clear $10k a month, with rakeback I hink its pretty achievable at $1/$2 but my aim would be to get to $2/$4 and higher as my main games.

My plan is to multitable 6 max cash games with the aim of 80,000 hands a month, it is going to be tough but I am approaching it as if its a job or business so will have to put the hours in.

I have just moved to Ipoker to get the high rakeback rate there so based on the nitty spreadsheets I have planned and poured over for months I need to run at around
1.5-2.00 PTBB to hit my target.

I also intend to play at least 100 sng's a month having these pay for the big Sunday Mtt's, I also plan to play play some of the various live festivals in particular the Grovesner Tour and possibley some EPT events.

Bankroll wise I am pretty nitty I want to keep a low risk of ruin so will be playing off a 50 buyin bankroll, currently is around $10k so I wont move up to 2/4 till the roll hits 20k. I am pretty upfront in both my game style and approach to gambling I am a total nit my 6 max stats are around 17/14 (dont ask about full ring), I dont gamble on the side so hopefully wont spunk any cash off on the horses or in the pit games at the casinos. SNG wise will play on a 30 buyin roll currently playing $30 ones on Stars will move up once my balance there hits $1500, but the intent is to use the winnings there to enter the Sunday Warm up and Million.

In Vegas will mainly play cash games as they were great last year but maybe look to play in the Venetian big stack series or the tournaments at Binions and The Golden Nugget that are running parallel to the world series. The Binions $500 main event was really good value last year 10k chips and a pretty slow clock. Will have my laptop as well to keep up with my online play.

Away from the table looking to get through the last few seasons of the Sopranos with the Wire the next show in line for me to watch, although I also have Deadwood, Xfiles and The Comic Strip presents box sets to get through. As I said in the previous PS3 games to be conquered GTA (8% Complete so far) and Assasins Creed.

So it Begins.................

Lets get the boring first setup post out of the way....

From June 1st I will be relying totally on Poker for my income, this blog will detail the ups, downs and sideway swings this will no doubt bring both financially and mentally.

I am a 35 year old IT consultant, I have been playing poker for 5 years now on a part time basis, I live with my partner and daughter plus a couple of step children and numerous pets. I am at the end of my contract and as I goto Vegas at the end of June through to Mid July there is no way I will get a new contract, so I am going to give Poker a go, hopefully staying on and playing the rest of the year, but if it all goes to pot will have to find proper work

My poker playing career started after seeing Jimmy White win the Poker Million, started off playing Limit, moving through the ranks to 5/10 nit like playing the Lee Jones way, at that point to move further up would have meant 6 max play which I didnt feel ready for or comfortable with. From there started playing tournaments in the main with the odd sng thrown in. For the last two years or so have played NL mainly 6 max but also a load of full ring as well, played up to the 2/4 level but the last few months have taken a huge downswing so am back at $1/2 6 max as my main game with the odd MTT and SNG thrown in.

I am hoping playing poker will also free up more quality time for me which will allow me to catch up on movie and tv watching as well as gaming, plan to try and complete Grand Theft Auto and Assasins Creed over the coming couple of months, oh and of course more quality time with the family.
